Episode 23 - Chasing love within the communities of Peru…
On this episode of the Podcast, I speak with Katie Baric, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the organization, Hands on Peru. Hands on Peru is a non-profit with an international commitment to improving access to public health, preventative health services, and quality health education for disempowered and marginalized communities in Peru. Their vision is to shift the paradigm from curation to prevention.
Katie’s very first trips to Honduras when she was just 12 years old influenced her passion to serve those in low resource settings. She focused her studies within the health field by studying human biology in college at North Carolina State University and then obtaining her masters in public health at the University of Pittsburgh. Katie is a searcher and not a planner. One that seeks to change the world in the best ways possible while also spreading love and compassion.
During this episode, we talk about…
Katie’s first trip to Central America when she was just 12 years old and how that influenced her passion for global health
How she and her team created the very first public health center of Peru (CESAPU)
Why it is so important to be creative when implementing health education in underserved communities
Challenges that may happen when life threatening illnesses are discovered in the community members
The future of Hands on Peru
And so much more…
